Why everyone should travel solo at least once

Travelling solo can be a terrifying thought! The idea of exploring unknown territories and finding your way from point A to point B, is tough. You get lonely, and that loneliness makes it all the more difficult. But at the end of the day, you realise you achieved everything on your own, and there's something incredibly empowering about that!

Whether you're male or female, you must travel solo at least once in your life. Why, you ask? Well that's what I'm here to share with you!

Complete Control

First of all, think of that time you wanted to stay in a country longer, but were insisted by those travel companions it was time to leave. Or when you were dragged along so do something you weren't particularly interested in. These scenarios all become obsolete when travelling solo. You can do, whatever tickles your fancy, and no one, NO ONE, will question that.

Get Independent

Solo travel means everything falls on you. You may be sitting there, reading this and thinking 'hell no!'. If that's you, then I urge you to embark on a solo adventure! It will truly be the best thing you ever did for yourself. You'll come back almost unrecognisable (in a goo way).

Learn to Completely Rely on Yourself

This is something we all need to learn sometime in our lives! This is what allows us to grow into respectable adults (ahum, yes, adults). You'll find yourself lost, tired, in language barriers, and much much more. These are the times you'll want to flop to the grown and scream, 'I give up! Take me home'. But, you can't. The only option is continue on, and push ourselves, instead of being pushed.

Learn New Skills

When I first embarked on my solo adventure to Europe I was completely incapable of reading a map. I came back a very different person. I started speaking my mind, I saw the world in a completely different light, and most importantly, I came back very good a reading maps and getting myself out of sticky situations. Whether you like it or not, travelling solo will force you to learn some very valuable skills.

It'll all Work Out in the End

You'll learn not to sweat the small stuff, and to adapt to whatever life throws at you, because honestly, it'll all work out in the end. And at the end of the day, you lay down in bed and take pride in what you've accomplished all by yourself.

Learn More About Yourself

Hello person I've known my entire life but don't really know. Spending time alone, tackling difficult situations, and navigating yourself around a foreign country will bring out the good, the bad and the very ugly. But take it as it comes, this is who you really are, embrace that, respect that, and love that it's got you to where you are today.

Enjoy Your Own Company

Being alone can be, well, lonely. Sometimes you don't meet anyone at a hostel, and you're forced to spend nights in an empty dorm room. It happens! But you learn to live with it. You learn that spending time with you, isn't all that bad.

Tell me, what have you learned from a solo trip overseas?
