Smell you later!
Yes, smell you later! I may, or may not (depends on who you talk to), have been watching too much Simpsons lately. Either way, tonight I'm jumping on a plane for a close to 24 hour transit to Europe – commence crowd cheering.
I always get really nervous before a flight. I mean, I'm not very comfortable with being crammed into a tin can, thousands of feet above sea level, going what I can only imagine is 1000 kms/hr (ahhhh!). Not to mention how crappy your skin and body feels on a plane, and the constant sitting – it's almost torture. Once I get on the plane, I'm usually far too excited to sleep so I watch a few movies, tire myself out, and hopefully pass out. But no matter how tired I am, I can never get a full hour of sleep. Go figure. Turns out, I'm not a seat sleeper, nope, never have been. I, like most human beings, need to lay my body flat to get rest. So flying is somewhat painful.
Flying from Melbourne across to Europe tally's up to around 24 hours of transit, and I'm not looking forward to it. Honestly, that long transit is why I'm spending more than one month in Europe. I may as well spend as much time there as possible, considering the effort it takes to get there. And this time around, I'm going to try to minimise my jet lag. This means I get on a plane at 12am at night, and stay up another 6 hours – essentially pulling an all-nighter my teen self would be proud of.
So, here's to the next 24 hours!
Tell me, how do you get through long-haul flights?
